Experimenting with Art Tools and Mediums

I done a head of an eagle in Illustration II last year(2004) using prismacolor pencils and it turned out really well and i received an A on it. I was satisfied but i knew as well as my classmates and instuctor suggessted at critique that it could be better. So i break out my pastels and start going over the whole piece. It is looking more vivid and textured filled than it was with just the prismacolors. Don't get me wrong i Love working with prismacolor pencils but pastels have won me over. What have you experiminted with in creating an art piece either for yourself or school? I am almost done with the eagle and i will post a picture of it when i am finished. :)
